Florida Atlantic University
I am proud to announce that Karen Corcoran Walsh has joined FAU’s Health Administration graduate and undergraduate programs as a preceptor. Karen will help FAU place and service students in various practicums and internships at Urgent Medical Billing. This community involvement helps our students gain real-world experience and obtain solid knowledge about the discipline.
-Dr. Dennis S. Palkon, Professor, Health Administration at FAU
Students spend 15-20 hours weekly working with upper-level management in the organization. Additionally, they learn about how the organization does business and the continuing balance between regulation, revenue, and responding to patient needs. Internships are a one credit class and are very flexible in scheduling to accommodate each student’s academic schedule.
This internship offers experiences for social workers, marriage and family counselors, and mental health counselors, all of whom work together.

Altogether, students enrolled in this program will learn how to interpret regulations and continuously changing events and circumstances within the growing industry.
What can you expect from this Internship?
The Health Internship (HI) encourages students to practice what they have learned in previous academic classes and discussions. Through this one semester hands-on training at one of Karen’s health care enterprises interns to work closely with the management team and support staff and also gain experience from health care providers within the industry. Similarly, interns will help make decisions under the supervision of their mentor gaining valuable experience in a structured health care management role.
Additionally, students will gain experience in other management tasks, supervision and/or revision of existing health care services, which include planning, law, research and event marketing. Overall, students will have the opportunity to assess the clients and incorporate their skills into relevant and timely activities.
